Smudgy 1.0.0-beta.4

Changes

  • Set up Smudgy when you first open it: appearance, recording readiness and AI connections, then a final check. Run it again from Settings → General.
  • Connect Codex, Claude or Custom AI (an OpenAI-compatible server on this Mac) side by side, and choose one Default AI for automatic briefs. Default AI starts off.
  • See whether Apple Intelligence is on for titles, categories, topics and chapters, with a shortcut to System Settings when it's off. The transcription download shows its progress and approximate time left.
  • Read transcripts as connected speaker turns, with clearer inline uncertainty markers and smoother scrolling during playback.
  • Read saved briefs first, follow citations to their supporting transcript passages, and create another brief from a compact action.
  • Recover from incomplete transcription or brief generation with simpler messages and contextual actions. Technical history and logs stay in Debug.
  • Use a single Record meeting / Stop recording control that shows the elapsed time, a simpler recording dialog, and more consistent settings controls. While recording, Current recording appears first in the sidebar.
  • Starting your first recording asks for microphone access if you haven't decided yet, and no longer fails if you take a moment to answer.
  • Browse meetings in the refreshed Calendar, which now shows your calendars sooner, and choose reminders for meetings or recurring series. Reminders use a compact Smudgy window with a smooth countdown and Join, Record, and Dismiss actions.
  • Protect against forgotten recordings with an inactivity countdown and a recording-duration limit that can be extended.
  • Play with the session stickers: drag them anywhere, drop one on the page to send it back to the cover, or press and hold the cover to shake them into new spots.

Availability and limitations

  • Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. This is a manually installed beta DMG; no automatic-update feed is published.
  • Account sign-in is unavailable in this build; setup shows it as coming soon. Recording and local meeting workflows do not require an account.
  • If you choose Don't Allow when macOS asks to record system audio, Smudgy can't tell yet: recordings keep your microphone but no computer audio, and no warning appears. To record other participants, allow Smudgy in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording → System Audio Recording Only.
  • Transcription, speaker attribution, and generated briefs can contain errors. Available processing features depend on device support and configured AI connections.
  • Calendar reminders require access to the selected calendars. Independent meeting bots and Google Calendar account integration are not included.
